The 2nd CGTN Global Media Summit and the 8th CCTV+ Video Media Forum (VMF2018) opened in Chongqing Municipality, southwest China, on Oct. 16, 2018. Wang Yaohui, president of the Center for China and Globalization, delivered a keynote speech titled “New Narrative of Communication between China and Foreign Countries in Globalization Era”.

Wang unfolded his speech with four points on globalization. First, he believed that  the globalization means both challenges and opportunities to the media.

Media around the world are accessible to opportunities all the same, Wang said. What is really worth discussion is to how to find corresponding solutions to cope with the news changes confronting the media industry in the new way of thinking, he said.

Then he emphasized the importance of “new narratives” in the media, which are still telling the “old stories.” In the time of globalization, he said, what the media should follow is the latest trend.

“As UK Prime Minister Theresa May said about ’Global Britain’, everyone needs to work with each other in the globalized world as globalization is the key to the major problems,” said Wang.

Wang also defined that globalization has entered a new stage, from 1.0 to 2.0, “when all countries can come and contribute.”

Under the Globalization 2.0, China is eager to share its 40 years’ experience of reform and opening up with the world while learning from other countries, said Wang.

The Belt and Road Initiative proposed by China is not a “China project” but a project “for all peoples,” which can bring “new impetus and drive for the globalization,” he said.

“What the globalization truly needs is that all parties come and invest to make the world more prosperous,” said Wang.
